There are many career decisions you will have to make if you ever decide to join the web design industry.
The first and the most important decision you will have to make is whether you want to work for someone or you want to work on your own. Freelancing has many advantages. Let’s look at some of them here.
Reason One- Work when you want to
One of the most popular reasons for a person to venture out on his or her own is that you have the luxury of working when you want to. For those of you who like working late into the night, a 9-5 job can be a challenging affair.
As a freelancer, you don’t have to watch the clock, you can go out when you like and do what you want; as long as you deliver the goods at the allotted time. If you happen to have a child, you can arrange your work schedule to fit in with the activities of your child.
You also have the luxury of working for people who live in different countries and time zones. You may even be able to juggle a 9-5 job and then work on your freelance web designing projects once you have come home.
However, it’s important to remember that the needs of the client always come first, irrespective of where you are working from.
Reason Two- Select the projects that you want
When you have a 9-5 job, you are forced to take up any job your organization demands of you.
This applies to various clients and companies as well. You have little say in the matter when it comes to who you are dealing with. But when you are working freelance, you can choose the projects and the people you feel comfortable with.
If you find the practices of a certain company unethical, you don’t have to take up the job. Or you just might find the job very boring to do.
You are at liberty to say no. However, at the end of the day; bills need to be paid so it’s best not to be too choosy.
Reason Three- High demand for good web designers
Across the globe, there is a high demand for good website design. In retrospect, the supply of qualified candidates is in short supply.
This means there is a lot of work out there and you can comfortably select the projects that are to your liking.
Reason Four- You are your own boss
There is no one there, breathing down your neck telling you what you should do and when you should do it.
It all depends on how much work you want to put into it. If you want to earn more money, you are at liberty to work longer hours.
As long as your client is happy, the choice is entirely yours.
Self-employment is the way to go if you can handle the uncertainty and the pressure of working alone. You can have the luxury of having a happy family life balanced with the right amount of work. What could be better?
